Marengo Lake is a 40 acre lake located in Marengo County, Alabama, approximately 7 miles south of Linden, near the community of Octagon. The lake, originally part of the State of Alabama's system of County Lakes, is now privately owned by Ann Young and her sons.

Marengo Lake is stocked with Florida bass, bluegill, shellcracker, and catfish. A fishing pier and boats are available. Fishing is limited to cabin guests, and to the family and friends of Ann & Francis.

Francis & Ann Young

Francis retired from a career in the US Army in 1968 and then taught JROTC in Mobile County until 1977.  He was  the owner of several successful small businesses until he moved to Marengo Lake in 1995.  We were deeply saddened to lose him as the result of a tractor accident on September 21, 2007.

Ann is a retired schoolteacher and librarian. She enjoys travelling with family and friends.

Francis and Ann have 3 children; Roger, Tim, and David. They also have 4 grandchildren. Click Here to see Francis and sons Click Here to see Tim Young and David Young Click Here to see Roger Young

CURRENT HAPPENINGS AT THE LAKE:

IMPORTANT INFORMATION!!! The dam at Marengo County Lake suffered a major breach during heavy rains on the 26th and 27th of March 2009 and the lake drained down to about 5 acres. We are now repairing the lake and will restock it as quickly as possible. Although most of the fish left with the water, quite a few remain in what's left of the lake. We will provide regular progress reports of the repairs and restocking here.

July 13th, 2009. Good News. The dam has been repaired and rebuilt. The lake is not fed by flowing streams or springs. It relies completely on rainfall and runoff. We are entering the dry part of the year, and so realistically speaking, we don't expect to see much of a rise in the lake level until rains restart this winter. Once the lake gets about half full, we'll restock with fingerling bass, bream, shellcracker, & catfish. We hope to see the lake completely full in about a year.

December 22nd, 2009. GREAT NEWS - THE LAKE IS FULL. THE EXCEPTIONALLY WET FALL HAS A SILVER LINING; THE LAKE HAS REFILLED IN RECORD TIME. WE HAVE STARTED RESTOCKING MARENGO LAKE AND SHOULD BE ABLE TO CATCH NICE BREAM NEXT FALL, AND NICE BASS THE FOLLOWING SUMMER.
